Kansas Direct Service Worker Application
United Healthcare Community Plan of Kansas + Zorya Foundation
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Thanks to a generous partnership with UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Kansas, Zorya Foundation will be providing 45 childcare grants to mothers working as Direct Service Worker in the state of Kansas!
UnitedHealthcare and Zorya Foundation believe access to childcare is a social determinant of health and that mothers working in healthcare are vital to the health of our communities and the resiliency of our healthcare systems.
Zorya Foundation’s flagship grant program, the “Mothers in Medicine Fund,” exists to address one of the most stressful and expensive barriers women in healthcare face—affordable childcare. This fund provides one-time financial grants to women working in healthcare to help subsidize the cost of childcare, allowing mothers to remain in their crucial roles and work without worry.
This program will be available to mothers working as Direct Service Workers in Kansas.
Childcare grants are a flat, one-time payment of $1,000 per applicant, which is the approximate national average of 1 month of childcare costs for 1 child.
The goal of this partnership is to eliminate barriers related to childcare so that Direct Service Workers can obtain or continue employment and ensure that care is consistent. By eliminating a key financial stressor, receiving a childcare grant will increase the likelihood that Direct Service Workers can join or remain in their roles caring for community members.

How can childcare grant funds be used? Financial grants can be used to subsidize direct childcare/caregiving costs, such as daycare, after school programs, childcare support from family members, etc. The funds can also be used for indirect costs related to childcare/caregiving, for unexpected financial crises, or to make ends meet while newly hired Direct Service Workers are waiting for their first paycheck.
Zorya Foundation recognizes that childcare/caregiving looks different for each family and trusts grant recipients will use the funds as intended.
